Description
Role:          SQL DBA Analyst

Location:   Currently remote, but with a future need to go to the office in Northampton when required (1-2 days a week)

Skills:         SQL Server, Production DBA, Support

Purpose of the Role:

Reporting to the Technical Lead in the SQL DBA Infrastructure Team, the purpose of the role is to provide technical expertise for the day to day activities within the SQL DBA Infrastructure Team. Supporting long term stability, currency and discipline of Infrastructure Services across the estate. These technologies include Microsoft SQL Server (All versions), IBM DB2 (desirable), Stored Procedure Optimisation & SQL Security Patching.

Key Responsibilities include:

 Provide technical expertise for the SQL DBA Infrastructure Team.

 The support of Incident, Problem and Change Management within the SQL DBA Infrastructure Team

ensuring internal KPIs are met.

 Maintain effective working relationships with Project Managers.

 Continuous daily health checking of the platform infrastructure.

 Maintain currency with prevailing and future technologies and have the ability to communicate and

introduce the latest technology, and technology best practice into the business

 Enhancing the technical knowledge needs of the SQL DBA Infrastructure Team to mitigate risk of single

point of knowledge and aid retention of key staff at all levels.

 Providing support and technical expertise in order that contingency plans are maintained and tested in

line with the Business Continuity processes.

 Providing 24 x 7 on call support for SQL Infrastructure.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Good knowledge SQL Always On Availability Groups

• Good knowledge of SQL Server installation and configuration

• Good knowledge of SQL Server database design

• Good knowledge of SQL Server capacity planning

• Good knowledge of SQL Server clustering

• Good knowledge of database backup and restore strategy

• Good SQL Server database performance tuning capability

• Excellent root cause analysis & problem solving skills

• Good T-SQL scripting

• Excellent at building relationships across a wide variety of groups

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Can work on own initiative with little direction

The role is suited to an SQL professional who enjoys interacting with stakeholders. You will be involved in the migration work to the cloud, where you will get the opportunity to work with Microsoft Azure!

The role is currently fully remote, but there will be a need to go into the office once regulations allow, although this wouldn't be more than 2 days week.
